If no files are found, refer to Troubleshooting Scan Results. Starting with Disk Drill 4 there is no need to wait till the scan is over to preview or restore the recoverable files. If you have a large hard drive or disk, this can take hours (or even days). Wait for Disk Drill to finish scanning. In case you are recovering data for an HFS+ catalog and Disk Drill detected a deleted or corrupted file system, the button will change its color to yellow and its name to “ Rebuild HFS+ catalog“. Click “ Search for lost data” at the bottom right of the app window. This ensures no other apps can access the disk during the scan and recovery process, and subsequently overwrite any potentially recoverable data. If it is possible, you will see a padlock icon next to the name of this partition. Before Disk Drill commences a scan, it will check whether it is possible to put the scanned partition in read-only mode. This time, I decided to try Time Machine to access the backup drive that was now showing, and that was successful.□ Tip: We recommend scanning the whole drive for the best results. So, I decided to scan it again with Disk Drill, and an hour later, again, it magically appeared in Finder. It did not appear, and when I was back in Finder, the hard drive wasn't showing. My first thoughts were that the disk is now "okay" and that it might appear in recovery mode, where I could restore an earlier backup. It was mounted and I could access it (and see the files that were shown in Disk Drill). The crazy part is that after an hour of scanning with Disk Drill, the hard drive randomly shows up in Finder. I had the free trial which doesn't let you recover the files, but I was happy to know that the Pro version was an option. Scanning took a while, but many files (including my Time Machine Backups were found). There was no way to access it in Finder as it wouldn't appear and going in Recovery mode didn't help neither.ġ-Tried "repair disk" in Disk Utility - that failed, with a message saying the disk cannot be repaired.Ģ- Tried Disk Drill. My backup hard drive couldn't even be mounted. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. If you'd like to view their content together, click here.
